An elderly couple have been serious injuries in a head-on collision on the A303 last night.

The crash happened at around 7pm yesterday, Saturday 30 December, on the nine-mile stretch of road between the A350 at Chicklade and the A350 and A36 Deptford/Codford.

It involved a Mercedes C200 collided with a silver Honda Jazz.

An 83-year-old man, and his 81-year-old wife, travelling in the Mercedes were seriously injured.

A woman, 36, travelling in the Honda suffered minor injuries.

The two elderly patients were flown to different hospitals in two air ambulances.

A fire and rescue service spokesperson said: “Crews from Tisbury and Mere used Holmatro cutting equipment to release two people from vehicles following a three vehicle road traffic collision.

“Casualties were then handed over to the ambulance service.”

A witness told Wiltshire 999s that one car was attempting an overtake, but collided with an oncoming car.

The road was closed for over six hours, reopening earlier this morning.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to call them on 101.
