Wiltshire Police has confirmed that six registered sex offenders were missing in June.
At least one rapist is among those who successfully evaded the force’s team of Sexual or Violent Offender Managers, also known as MOSOVOs, last month.
782 registered sex offenders (RSOs) currently live in the communities of Swindon and Wiltshire, according to a Freedom of Information Act request response. The number of RSOs living locally fluctuates – but in 2022 averaged 747.
On 16 June, Wiltshire Police was hunting six RSOs – including at least one rapist.
Offences committed by the outstanding RSOs included: rape of a female, rape of a female child, assault of a female by penetration, causing a female with mental disorder to engage in penetrative sexual acts, sexual assault of a female child, sexual activity with a female child and meeting a female child following grooming.
In its response to the Freedom of Information Act request, the Disclosure Decision Maker wrote: “In relation to the number of registered sexual offenders whose whereabouts are unknown, Wiltshire Police has as of the date of your request 6 RSOs currently recorded as wanted because their whereabouts are unknown.
“This total is only valid for the date in question because the information is dynamic and will change as arrests are made or new cases come to light through proactive intelligence led policing or routine visits to registered offenders.”
MOSOVOs actively look for missing RSOs, carrying out enquiries to locate them as swiftly as possible.
