A police officer has been seriously hurt in ‘scuffle’ with a youth riding e-scooter.
The officer was responding to reports of anti-social behaviour in Westbury on Tuesday (19 March), when the teenage male was seen on an electric scooter.
The youth initially evaded the officer in the High Street, but he was located a short time later. With the intention of issuing a warning and seize the device, he was stopped.
However, the male decided to resist the officer, resulting in a “scuffle”. As a result, the officer sustained a broken wrist. Despite this, the male was still detained successfully.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “As the Officer was on his own and clearly injured, CCTV operators from Warminster and Westbury CCTV, who were monitoring the live feed, were able to call for assistance on his behalf and get further police units to his location.
“Despite the pain from the injury, the Officer was determined to carry out his job and managed to detain and handcuff the youth and await the arrival of colleagues from our response team who had responded to the assistance shout from CCTV.
“The injury to the Officer has since been confirmed as a broken wrist.
“The youth was arrested for Assault on an Emergency Worker and has been bailed pending investigation.”
