An arrest has been made after a biker was killed in a crash on a crossroads on a country road junction near Swindon.
Emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision between Chiseldon and Draycot Foliat at around 4.05pm on Tuesday (11 August).
The incident involved a Triumph Scrambler and a black Volvo V60 on the crossroads with The Ridgeway, Draycott Road and Ladysmith Road.
Thames Valley Air Ambulance were scrambled to the scene alongside local 999 crews.
Despite the best efforts of medics, the motorcyclist – a man aged in his 60s – was pronounced dead a short time later. His next of kin has been informed.
The driver of the Volvo, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, causing death by careless driving while under the influence and possession of an offensive weapon.
Specialist officers carried out at full-scale forensic collision investigation. Contrary to other reports, the road remained closed this morning (Wednesday).
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “A motorcyclist has sadly died following a collision in Chiseldon yesterday afternoon (11/08).
“At around 4.05pm, we responded to a collision between a Triumph Scrambler and a black Volvo V60 at the junction between Draycott Road and The Ridgeway in Chiseldon.
“The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, was sadly declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“The driver of the Volvo, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, causing death by careless driving while under the influence and possession of an offensive weapon, namely an extendable baton. He has been taken into custody for questioning.
“The junction remains closed while enquiries are carried out.
