UPDATE: Police issue wrong info – bin lorry didn’t kill man in Salisbury crash
Wiltshire Police has revealed more about the tragic fatal crash in Salisbury city centre.
A forensic collision investigation was launched after a man died at the scene of a road traffic collision in Fisherton Street at around 10.45am on Tuesday (28 October).
Shortly after the incident, the force only confirmed the death – providing no information around the circumstances. It was unclear if the man has been in a vehicle or on foot.

This morning (Wednesday), Wiltshire Police told Wiltshire 999s that the 64-year-old man killed in the crash was a pedestrian, and he was struck by a bin lorry.
A spokesperson said: “The incident involved a 64-year-old male pedestrian (who sadly died) and a DAF HGV refuse lorry.”
Adding: “The circumstances are under investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Team.”

The incident prompted a significant response by 999 services, with the road swiftly cordoned off by the fire service and police.
It remained closed until the early hours of today – as investigation work and vehicle recovery was carried out by specialist officers. No arrests were made.
A spokesperson urged witnesses or anyone with footage of the collision to make contact.
“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dashcam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log 76 of today’s date (28/10) or email [email protected].”
