Police have made an arrest after man was attacked in Swindon town centre.

Emergency services were called to reports of a serious assault outside Greggs in The Parade at around 1.25pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance landed in GWR Park in Faringdon Road, moments before the onboard critical care medics were driven to the scene.

A man, aged in his 60s, was treated for serious injuries to his leg and ankle. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to a witness, he was pushed over during an altercation involving a homeless man.

Officers have since arrested a man in connection with the incident. It’s believed he was detained in outside JD Gyms on Transfer Bridges.

A force spokesperson said: “Following swift local enquiries, we have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

“He has been taken into custody for questioning.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or the lead up to it is asked to contact us on 101 quoting log 157 of today’s date.”
