A mum-of-six who worked as a nurse at the Great Western Hospital died after being involved in a crash on the A419 – as she headed home from a night shift.

Tributes are flowing in for Sarah Crook, who was fatally struck after her car reportedly broke down on the major route in Swindon at around 8.30am on Friday (5 June).

Emergency services were called to the incident, which involved a Vauxhall Vivaro van colliding with the rear of a Toyota Aygo, on the flyover at White Hart Roundabout.

On social media, dozens of tributes have flown in – with friends, colleagues and loved ones describing Sarah as caring, compassionate, beautiful and dedicated to nursing.

Jess White said: “You had such a positive impact on so many people. A passion for your work and being a mum. My heart goes out to your family and your children. We will miss you.”

Sam Lee wrote: “The world has lost a truly remarkable human. You kept me going on night shifts and held my hand when I had to take my very first set of bloods.

“You listened without judgment and were always ready with kind words and a smile. My heart and love goes to Andy and the kids at this incredibly difficult time.”

Xzofia Constance penned: “You dont realise how far someone’s impact reached, until such a horror as this. You were an inspiration to me, as a mother.

“Some of the advice you sent me late at night, probably saved my life. I will pray without ceasing for your wonderful family, I cannot imagine the road they now face. I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss. May God rest you Sarah.”

Rachel Jane added: “You will always be one of the purest, kindest and beautiful souls I was lucky to meet. Your dedication to your family and your career was one many can look up to.

“My heart aches for your children and your husband. Oh Sarah, I’m so shocked. Sleep eternally forever Beautiful. You will be missed so very much by so many people. So much love to your family.”

Claire Deakin also commented: “There are no right words for this. Sarah – an incredible nurse who I loved working alongside. I will always remember our extended-edition handovers. You cared for everyone so much. More than a colleague; a friend.

“Never judged anyone and treated everyone with kindness and respect. Always quietly going the extra mile without ever seeking recognition or praise.

“Most importantly, she was a devoted mum and wife who adored her family. They were the centre of her world. Sending all the love and strength to you all. You will be missed more than words can say.”

Wiltshire Police statement

“A woman has died following a collision on the A419 earlier this morning (05/06).

“At around 8.30am this morning, a Vauxhall Vivaro van collided with a Toyota Aygo which is believed to have broken down on the northbound carriageway near White Hart roundabout.

“The driver of the Toyota, a woman in her 30s, was sadly declared dead at the scene.

“Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

“The van driver suffered no reported serious injuries. No arrests have been made.

“The northbound carriageway will remain closed for several hours while an investigation is carried out. The southbound carriageway has now reopened.

“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 61 of today’s date.

“Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
