A woman has been killed in a horror crash on the A419 in Swindon – after a van smashed into a broken down car.
Emergency services were scrambled to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the flyover at the White Hart Roundabout at around 8.30am this morning (Friday).
A white Vauxhall Vivaro van hit silver Toyota Aygo, which is believed to have broken down on the northbound carriageway.
The driver of the Toyota – a woman aged in her 30s – sustained serious injuries, with Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance medics providing treatment alongside ambulance crews.
Despite the best efforts of those involved, she was pronounced dead at the scene approximately 45 minutes later.
“Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
Specialist officers are supporting the family, while a full-scale forensic collision investigation is underway.
The force confirmed that the driver of the Vauxhall did not sustain any serious injuries, and no arrests have been made at this time.
A spokesperson added: “The northbound carriageway will remain closed for several hours, likely through evening rush hour, while an investigation is carried out.
“The southbound carriageway has now reopened.
