A motorcyclist has been seriously hurt in a crash with a car on the A350 in Melksham.
Emergency services were called to Western Way, near the Semington Road roundabout, shortly before 9am this morning (Friday).
The incident involved a motorcycle and a car, with a biker left wounded at the roadside.
Members of the public, including an off-duty paramedic and former army medic, stopped to help.
It’s understood the motorcyclist struck the rear of a stationary car; the driver had stopped for a red light at the pedestrian crossing. It’s thought sun glare contributed towards the smash.
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance’s critical care medics attended to provide urgent treatment alongside local ambulance crews.
The motorcyclist was rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for further care.
The road was closed until around 10.45am.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We attended a collision involving a car and motorbike on the A350 near the Countrywide Farmers roundabout at 9am this morning.
“The road was closed between the roundabout and Berryfields roundabout.
“The motorcyclist was taken to the RUH with serious injuries. The road was cleared by 10.45am.”
