UPDATE: Minibus driver dies after collapsing at wheel in central Swindon
A minibus driver ‘in cardiac arrest’ has crashed outside Swindon railway station.
Emergency services were called to the serious medical incident in Station Road at around 8am this morning (Monday).
An Akcess bus appears to have collided with a bus stop after the driver reportedly collapsed into cardiac arrest at the wheel of the vehicle.
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity critical care medics are on scene alongside two ambulance crews, a fire crew and numerous police officers.
The area has been taped off as 999 crews worked – with the road partially blocked, causing significant traffic delays during rush hour.
The condition of the casualty is unknown at this stage, and it is not clear whether anyone was on board the bus at the time of the crash.
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Drivers please be aware that we are currently at the scene of a medical incident in Station Road, Swindon.
“This is causing severe delays in the rush hour traffic.
“Please allow extra time for journeys and find alternative routes.”
