A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the A303 near Stonehenge.

Emergency services were called to reports of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) hitting a pedestrian on the main route past the historical site at around 2.20am today (28 January).

A 24-year-old man was rushed to hospital with a significant head injury and he was later pronounced dead.

The road is expected to remain closed until this afternoon for collision investigation work.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We can confirm we were called to a road traffic collision on the A303 near Stonehenge this morning at approximately 2.20am involving a HGV and a pedestrian.

“We regret to report that the pedestrian, a 24-year-old man, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and was pronounced dead this morning.

“His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“The A303 remains closed in both directions between the A345 and the A360 and is expected to remain closed for some time while our investigations continue.”
