Wiltshire Police has referred itself to the police watchdog after a man was found dead in Swindon.
Emergency services were called to a report of a man found hanged in woodland off Stockbridge Copse, Peatmoor, shortly after midnight today (Thursday, 28 July).
First responders desperately tried to revive the man, who was aged in his 40s, at the scene. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to contact with Wiltshire Police before his death, the force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
The watchdog will investigate how the police handled the incident, and whether they could have done anything differently to prevent his death.
A spokesperson confirmed that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and his family has been informed.
