A man has been banned from entering Co-op and Tesco Express store across Swindon after being handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Homeless Stuart Hook, 37, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (12 September) charged with nine counts of theft from the stores in June and August this year.
The offences, which amounted to hundreds of pounds in stolen goods, resulted in a suspended prison sentence and other penalties.
Hook was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must also complete 120 hours of unpaid work and comply with up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity.
The two-year CBO prohibits him from entering any Co-op or Tesco Express stores in Swindon.
PC Andy Caldwell said: “This Criminal Behaviour Order has been put in place to protect local retailers and their staff from repeated theft and disruption.
“It sends a clear message that persistent anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Swindon.
“If Hook breaches any of the conditions, he will face arrest and further prosecution.
“We remain committed to supporting businesses and taking firm action against those who repeatedly offend.”
