Wiltshire Police say that “urgent enquiries” are ongoing to locate and arrest a man in connection with the murder at Calcutt Park near Cricklade.

Jimmy Ward, aged in his 30s, suffered a gunshot wound at around 8.15am, and died at the scene.

This afternoon (Monday), a crime scene remained in place and detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) were present in a mobile office vehicle.

Officers guarded the traveller site, which is a permanent council-approved establishment. Cordons are expected to remain for some days.

The prime suspect, a man who is believed to have had previous interaction with the victim the evening before the shooting, is wanted by police.

The force said that he is believed to have left Wiltshire, but a manhunt is ongoing.

A man aged in his 70s and a woman aged in her 40s have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and assisting an offender. They remain in custody.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, from MCIT, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts remain with the victim’s friends and family at this sad time.

“Our investigation has been continuing at pace since the incident was first reported and it is a Force priority to locate the outstanding suspect, who is thought to have left the Wiltshire area.

“I understand the concern that this incident will have caused for our local communities.

“Our officers are currently at the scene and the Mobile Police Station is in Cricklade today – if you have any concerns or questions then please don’t hesitate to speak with us.”
