A man has been arrested for ‘attempting to murder a woman’ in an attack in Salisbury.
Armed police launched a manhunt following a serious assault in the village of Firsdown at around 4.45pm on Tuesday afternoon (5 May).
A woman, aged in her 50s, sustained significant injuries – with Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance deployed to the scene to provide urgent treatment.

Firearms officers, supported by two National Police Air Service helicopters, swarmed the Bishopdown Road area and Spire View in connection with the suspect search.
The bomb squad was also deployed – carrying out searches of a property in Spire View, believed to be linked to the suspect.

A man, aged in his 30s and known to the victim, was located more than five hours later and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
DI Eirin Martin said: “We appreciate the significant concern this incident caused, with a heightened police presence across the city whilst searches of an address were carried out, as well as searches to locate the man.
“Please be reassured that this was an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public and we have arrested a man in connection with it.
“Thank you to the Salisbury community for their patience whilst we carried out our enquiries.
“There will be a continued police presence in the areas of Spire View and Bishopdown whilst we continue with our enquiries.”
