A man has been arrested after an armed gang broke into a flat block in Chippenham.
Police were called to a report of a group of males with weapons entering the building in Fuller Close, off Flower’s Yard, at about 9.10pm yesterday evening (Sunday, 28 August).
Firearms officers were deployed, and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter from Bristol was requested to help with searching the area for the suspects.
There was a significant police presence across central Chippenham as a manhunt was launched for the group of offenders – but it’s not yet clear if they were armed with firearms or knives.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of breaching a restraining order in connection with the incident. He’s currently in Melksham custody for questioning.
At the scene in Fuller Close this morning (Monday, 29 August), glass can be seen on the ground near a boarded-up window. There is no sign of any police at the address, or a crime scene.
During the major search operation, at least seven armed response units from Wiltshire, and from the Gloucestershire force area, could be seen gathering in the Lidl car park, off Pewsham Way.
Several roads policing unit vehicles and two dog units were also in attendance. The police helicopter remained in the skies above until just after midnight.
