A man reportedly smashed a protective screen and verbally abused a shop worker after she asked the customer to wear a face mask.

Police were called to the scene at the Best One store in Longleaze, Royal Wootton Bassett, at shortly before midday following reports of a disorder.

When officers arrived at the scene, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and a public order offence.

Wiltshire Police says he remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

The female shop worker is said to have been left ‘shocked’ by the incident.
