A man was caught drink driving when police officers spotted his car hit a kerb.
Anjan Rai, 23, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle over the prescribed alcohol limit at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (11 January).
Police officers on patrol spotted a Nissan Micra travelling slowly and then striking a kurb on Queens Drive at around 1.25am on 6 December last year.
The defendant, of Horsham Road, was stopped by the officers at a nearby service station where he failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.
In custody at Gablecross Police Station, he provided an evidential sample of 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.
Defending, Simon Collingham said his client was working in Aldi but chose to leave his job due to shift patterns causing his mental health to deteriorate.
The court heard how he’d been using alcohol to cope with said mental health issues and Rai sought help from his doctor, Turning Point and Mind.
He was released on unconditional bail until 11 February so that a pre-sentence report can be prepared by the probation service.
