Eight people have been arrested after immigration officers raided a Home Bargains site in Wiltshire.

The Home Office, working with Wiltshire Police, attended the company’s regional distribution centre in Amesbury on Wednesday evening (7 May).

Immigration enforcement officers and police officers carried out checks on employees there.

While most staff were working legally, eight people were arrested for immigration offences.

“Relevant checks were carried out on employees at the location whereby the vast majority were found to have valid UK Residence Cards/ Refugee Status and/or Permits to Work”, a force spokesperson said.

They added: “Eight staff members were identified and arrested for immigration offences which included Failing to Observe Conditions to Enter/ Remain in the UK, and Remaining in the UK beyond their specified time limit.

“Those arrested were transported to police custody whilst further enquiries were conducted.”
