A male was rushed to hospital with multiple knife wounds after an attack in broad daylight.

Detectives are investigating the serious disorder involving two groups of young people in Faringdon Park in central Swindon on Saturday afternoon (7 May).

It’s believed a group of males approached a group of young people in the park, located between Faringdon Road and Church Place, between 5.30pm and 6pm.

The offenders are alleged to have produced weapons during the incident, including a knife – which was used to inflict injuries on one of the males.

The victim, believed to be a teenager, was rushed to hospital with “multiple injuries”. Following treatment, he was discharged.

Neighbourhood sergeant Richard Tottle labelled the incident “nasty” and “unprovoked.

He said locals can expect to see an increased police presence in the area today (Sunday, 8 May) whilst officers carry out their enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Louise Kuklinski said: “I want to reassure the community that we are conducting a thorough and fast paced investigation in order to identify the individuals responsible for what occurred in Faringdon Park yesterday afternoon.

“These offenders have attacked a group of others in the middle of a busy park in broad daylight. They have produced weapons and used them and I can only imagine the impact that this could have on other members of the public that were enjoying social time at the weekend.

“Detectives are working alongside the local central neighbourhoods team in order to identify the individuals responsible for this incident and I would like to make it clear that we will not tolerate this offending.

“We will do everything we can to identify those responsible and my plea to the public is to help us to do this. If you were there and you saw what happened then please call us, if you have any information or other evidence that can help us then please make contact as soon as you can.

“Knife crime and violence has no place within our communities and we will work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”

Anyone with any information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54220046836.
