Kubilay Bostanli has been found guilty of attempting to murder a man in Devizes.
The 27-year-old pursued his victim in the town centre in broad daylight last summer, before stabbing him in the neck in front of horrified shoppers.
At around 12.30pm on 29 June 2024, Bostanli was seen to be chasing a man – aged in his 20s – near Sidmouth Street.
He was physically assaulted inside the local butchers, and then chased to Estcourt Street. The victim suffered two stab wounds to his neck, other facial and ear injuries.
When police arrived Bostanli assaulted the officer trying to detain him by pulling her around by her hair.
Following a trial at Winchester Crown Court, a jury convicted him of attempted murder and assaulting an emergency worker.
DC Jo Newbery from CID said: “This was a sustained and terrifying attack during which the victim fought for his life.
“Kubilay Bostanli used extreme violence against his victim, which was witnessed by a large number of people given the time of day and location of the assault.
“I’d like to thank the victim for his bravery in working with the police, and who medical staff say is lucky to still be here.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the three members of public who helped to provide first aid to the victim.”
Bostanli, of Anzio Road, Devizes, is due to be sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on 4 April.
