A man was injured with a knife during a disorder in Swindon this morning (18 September).
Wiltshire Police were called to the scene in Verwood Close, off Whitbourne Avenue, at around 11am following reports of a disturbance.
A man was found to have suffered an injury to his hand, which officers believed was caused by a knife.
The suspect involved is said to have fled from the responding police officers but was soon detained by PC Leanne Kavanagh aided by the red dot on her Taser.
The 25-year-old man was detained in Bideford Close and arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm. He has been taken to Gablecross Police Station, where he remains in custody.
The force says it is not linking today’s incident with the machete attack in nearby Buckhurst Field on Thursday.
Officers were reportedly carrying out door-to-door enquiries following the incident, ask residents if they saw or heard anything.
Duty Inspector Louis McCoy said: “We understand that this incident, in broad daylight, would have caused concern to those living in the local area.
“We’d like to reassure people that the suspect was detained swiftly, and we are not looking for anyone else connected with this incident at this stage. A scene will remain in place for the next hour while we carry out our enquiries.
“Please be reassured that we take reports of this nature extremely seriously and will always deal as robustly and efficiently as we can.
“I’d also like to reassure people that, at this stage, we are not linking this with the incident that occurred in Walcot earlier this week.”
