An honoured councillor has died after an ‘air ambulance was called to his Wiltshire home’.

Emergency services rushed to an address in Doubledays, Cricklade, early this morning (Thursday).

Despite the best efforts of medics, Bob Jones MBE – a well-respected local councillor – was pronounced dead at the scene having suffered a cardiac arrest.

Great Western Air Ambulance landed at the nearby Cricklade Leisure Centre, in Stones Lane, reportedly to attend the incident.

Wiltshire Police said they were called to the sudden death of man in his 70s and confirmed that there not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Officers remained at his home for several hours while awaiting a private ambulance. A spokesperson for the force said: “Our thoughts are with his family.”

In a tribute, Cricklade Town Council said: “It is with great sadness that we report the sudden death of our friend and colleague Councillor Bob Jones, who had served here for 10 years and who was also our Wiltshire Councillor for Cricklade and Latton.

“We send our thoughts and regards to his family at this difficult time.

“Bob made a huge contribution to the life of our town over many years for which we must all be grateful. We especially remember his work with Cricklade Scouts, Cricklade Bloomers and as founder of the Cricklade Link Scheme.

“We remember his ongoing contribution to the Leisure Centre Management Committee, his work on the Dance Common Management Group, as an officer of the Cricklade Court Leet and trustee of Cricklade Open Door and founder member of Cricklade Development Foundation. This names just a few of his commitments to Cricklade.”
