Firefighters are battling a huge blaze involving a farmer’s crops in Devizes.
Fire crews were called to the scene off Windsor Drive earlier today (Tuesday).
A farmer’s field – and a bailer – are well alight, with a significant amount of cut straw destroyed across approximately five acres of land.
The incident is ongoing – locals in the Little Coate area should close their doors and windows if they are affected by the smoke plume.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews from Devizes and Marlborough are in attendance.
They’re being supported by a small 4×4 pumping appliance from Ludgershall and water carrier from Pewsey.
“The incident involves a bailer and approximately five acres of cut straw – the fire has been surrounded, with firefighters using hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish”, the spokesperson added.
