A driver has been arrested after Wiltshire 999s published images of a Mercedes C63 being ‘driven at 180mph’ on the M4 following a car meet in Chippenham.

The incident is believed to have taken place following the unauthorised event on Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate on Boxing Day (26 December) – sparking an investigation by Wiltshire Police.

Following our coverage of the video posted on Snapchat, roads policing officers have arrested a man – aged in his 30s from Eastleaze in Swindon – on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The arrest was made last night (28 December) and he remains in custody for questioning.

Sgt Ben Cox said: “It goes without saying that these kinds of speeds are absolutely ridiculous and this behaviour will not be tolerated – we will identify those involved and ensure they are put before the courts so that they can be held accountable for their actions.

“A number of members of the public contacted us who witnessed this behaviour on the M4 – if you have any information which could assist please get in touch.

“Call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230137111.”
