Detectives are investigating a serious house fire that took place near Malmesbury over the weekend.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed that emergency services are working to “establish the welfare of the believed occupant” of the property in the usually-sleepy village of Lea.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent eight fire engines and various other resources to the incident at around 11am on Sunday morning (22 January).
The large detached home was well alight, with approximately a quarter of the roof collapsing in the flames.
For much of today (Monday), fire investigators and detectives from CID were on scene probing the cause of the blaze – but it’s not yet clear if the fire is being treated as suspicious.
The occupant of the property is said to be missing, with the force confirming that they are still working to “establish the welfare of the believed occupant”.
Forensic work is expected to continue at the property tomorrow (Tuesday 24 January).
