Two deadly weapons have been seized after police officers were approached by a resident while on patrol in a Wiltshire town.
The Amesbury neighbourhood officers were on foot patrol when a member of the public asked how they could surrender two prohibited items.
Following the interaction, they attended his address and collected two shuriken (known as throwing stars).
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the bladed weapons has been secured and marked for destruction.
Under the Offensive Weapons Act it is a criminal offence to possess certain weapons, even inside your own home.
This includes shuriken, batons, knuckle dusters, zombie knives, daggers and more.
If a person is caught with an offensive weapon, they could face up to 51 months behind bars.
A force spokesperson said: “Many people remain unaware of the law change, but simply forgetting you own an item is not a defence.
“Our advice: if you believe you have a prohibited weapon, please surrender it to Wiltshire Police by visiting your nearest police station.
“Make sure it is securely wrapped to prevent injury and contact us for guidance on how to hand it in safely.
“Thank you to the member of the public who acted responsibly and helped keep our community safe.”
