A swan has been found dead on a Wiltshire river – with residents claiming that they keep dying in the area.
Tony Moran, who snapped a photo of the deceased bird in Wilton, was left saddened and said he was “absolutely stunned” by the discovery.
But locals say swans and other birds have been dropping dead on the River Wylye.
“We have lost 3 in newton and area, bird flu”, one person claims – referring to the nearby village of South Newton.
Another added: “So many reports recently about dead swans. Three in Andover last week too.”
It comes just weeks after Wiltshire Council confirmed the death of a buzzard to have been caused by bird flu.
The bird of prey was found around eight miles away in Winterbourne Stoke, alongside the River Till. Posters were put up to alert the public and remind dog owners to stay alert.
Wiltshire Council has warned that Avian Influenza can affect some mammals, including dogs.
A spokesperson said: “If your pet becomes unwell, speak to your vet and mention if it may have come into contact with wild birds.”
Back in April, a herring gull was found dead in Devizes and was later confirmed to be infected with bird flu, with warnings issued in the community.
