A case of bird flu has been confirmed in a wild buzzard found dead in Wiltshire.
The bird tested positive for the H5N1 strain of Avian Influenza after it was submitted to the Animal and Plant Health Agency as part of routine surveillance.
It was found in the Winterbourne Stoke area, with posters are being placed along the River Till to alert the public and remind dog owners to stay alert.
The area is known for its popular dog walking routes and nearby water sources, which increase the risk of contact with infected wild birds.
Wiltshire Council has warned that Avian Influenza can affect some mammals, including dogs.
A spokesperson said: “If your pet becomes unwell, speak to your vet and mention if it may have come into contact with wild birds.”
Back in April, a herring gull was found dead in Devizes and was later confirmed to be infected with bird flu, with warnings issued in the community.
