A car has smashed through the front window of a former restaurant in Chippenham.

Police were called to the scene in Market Place at around 5.30am this morning (14 September) following reports of the road traffic collision.

Fire crews and the ambulance service were also in attendance, with just a single police officer remaining at the incident guarding the open premises.

Firefighters worked to inspect the building for any structural damage caused by the vehicle, a white BMW, in the crash.

Parts of a car, including a wing mirror, could be seen in the debris.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “No injuries were reported but the ambulance service attended along with the fire service.

“There was no structural damage to the building, with The Causeway closed temporarily while the vehicle, a BMW, was recovered.

“Officers remain while attempts are made to secure the building.”
