A ‘significant quantity of cash’ has been found in a rural area of Swindon, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances.
The money was discovered by a dog walker in the Blunsdon area before being handed over to Wiltshire Police earlier this week.
A large number of police officers were spotted searching fields off William Morris Way, close to the A419, on Wednesday (30 September).
Officers are now working to establish how the money – believed to be in the hundreds or thousands of pounds – came to be in the rural location and who it belongs to.
Police want to hear from anyone who believes they have recently lost a significant quantity of cash in a rural area.
Anyone attempting to claim the money will be required to provide information which has deliberately not been made public.
This will include details about the amount of cash, denominations, packaging or container, its approximate location and the circumstances in which it was lost.
Police say the information will allow officers to verify whether any claim to the money is legitimate.
Anyone who believes the cash belongs to them, or has information which could help establish how it came to be there, should email [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
Wiltshire Police also thanked the dog walker who discovered the money for acting responsibly and handing it in.
