Police have increased patrols in rural areas around Calne following reports of hare coursing and poaching.
Officers say the end of the harvest season means many arable fields are becoming more accessible to vehicles, increasing the risk of illegal activity.
The Calne Neighbourhood Policing Team has started receiving reports of hare coursing and poaching in the area.
In response, officers are carrying out additional patrols in rural locations which have recently been targeted.
Police are also speaking with residents and landowners as part of efforts to gather information and deter offenders.
Hare coursing involves dogs being used to pursue hares across open land. Anyone who witnesses it taking place is being urged to call 999.
Members of the public have been warned not to approach or confront anyone suspected of being involved.
Where it is safe, witnesses are encouraged to note the location, vehicle details and registration numbers, the number of people and dogs present, and whether any weapons have been seen.
Photographs and video footage can also assist investigations and prosecutions, but police stressed that people should not put themselves at risk to obtain evidence.
Suspicious activity could include 4×4 vehicles being driven at speed across open land, lurcher-type dogs, lamps flashing across fields or groups gathering on farmland.
Non-emergency information can be reported by calling 101, with callers asked to mention Operation Galileo.
The increased patrols come as officers take part in the National Rural Crime Week of Action.
PCSOs Cook and Sheppard have been visiting rural communities to speak with residents, farmers and other local stakeholders.
Wiltshire Police said maintaining contact with rural communities helps officers gather intelligence, identify emerging problems and provide crime prevention advice.
Further engagement events are expected to take place in the coming weeks, where equine security marking will be available.
Plant and machinery theft also remains a priority for Wiltshire Police as officers continue efforts to tackle rural crime.
The neighbourhood policing team covers Calne alongside Chippenham, Corsham, Malmesbury and surrounding villages.
