An ambulance service has issued a black ice warning after four people were seriously injured in a crash involving a tree.
South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, which covers nearby Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Berkshire, attended the incident on Tuesday (6 January).
A spokesperson said that ambulance crews attended the scene on an untreated road, where icy conditions are believed to have caused the vehicle to lose control.
All four occupants were assessed at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment. No further details about their conditions have been released.
The ambulance service has urged motorists to take extra care while driving in winter conditions, warning that snow and ice can make roads extremely hazardous.
Drivers are being reminded to reduce their speed, increase the distance between vehicles and remain cautious in areas such as under bridges, on overpasses and in shaded sections of road, where black ice is more likely to form.
Advice has also been issued on how to respond if a vehicle begins to skid, including easing off the accelerator and gently steering in the direction of travel rather than braking sharply.
Pedestrians are also being warned that pavements may be slippery, with people encouraged to wear suitable footwear and take extra care to avoid slips and falls.
