Wiltshire Police say they are taking firm action against a group of young people involved in ongoing anti-social behaviour in Swindon town centre.
Over the past week, officers have issued several Section 35 dispersal orders – powers that allow police to order individuals to leave a designated area and not return for up to 48 hours.
The orders were introduced in response to harassment and distress caused to businesses, shoppers, and workers in the town centre.
However, police say the orders were repeatedly breached, forcing them to make several arrests.
Those involved have since been released on bail with conditions banning them from the town centre.
Neighbourhood Inspector David Tippetts said: “This level of behaviour, which is affecting people who work and use the town centre on a daily basis, is completely unacceptable.
“We will be carrying out further arrests as we identify those responsible.”
He added that local businesses have suffered a significant impact and warned that anyone continuing to cause trouble could face arrest.
“Anyone dispersed who is under the age of 16 will be taken home to their parents,” Inspector Tippetts added.
Police say patrols in the area will continue, with a focus on ensuring Swindon town centre remains a safe and welcoming place for residents, visitors, and workers alike.
