Council offices in Tewkesbury have been evacuated after a grenade was handed in today (Tuesday).

A member of the public decided to take the device to the Gloucester Road building at 2.10pm.

Gloucestershire Constabulary say the explosive was found by the person while metal detecting.

A spokesperson added: “Police are in attendance after we were called at around 2.10pm today (Tuesday 26 November) and a safety cordon is in place.

“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is in attendance to ensure the device is safe and will be carrying out a controlled explosion if necessary.”
