The prime suspect in the murder of a man in Salisbury has been charged.

Maurice Jones, 25, is alleged to have killed a man in aged in his 20s – named as Tsvetomir Genov in court papers – during a knife attack on Tuesday (22 August).

The fatal incident happened in Gainsborough Close, Bemerton Heath, shortly before midday – with air ambulance medics battling in vain to save the victim’s life.

The defendant, of Gainsborough Close, will appear at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday).

Wiltshire Police says it believes officers have recovered the weapon used in the murder – and have since removed the crime scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker of the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “Thanks to diligent work by officers and help from members of the public, we were able to swiftly arrest a suspect and I can confirm that he has now been charged with murder.

“I would like to offer my condolences to the family of the victim who continue to be supported by specially trained family liaison officers at this difficult time.

“I’d also like to thank the local community for their patience and help while we investigated this incident.”
