Another driver has ploughed their car into a Swindon house after a ’roundabout incident’.

Emergency services rushed to reports of a vehicle striking a property on Cricklade Road at around 9.30pm yesterday evening (Saturday 11 March).

On their arrival at the scene, located on the junction with Headlands Grove, a black Volkswagon Polo was found embedded in the front of the large detached home.

The driver remained in situ and cooperated fully with the police – claiming that a second vehicle entered the roundabout from the wrong direction, causing him to swerve, hit a kerb and career into the building.

The driver speaking to a police officer at the scene

The vehicle – which had been travelling through a 30mph zone – went up a kerb, across a footpath, through a garden littered with rubble, and demolished a metal fence and wooden boards that had been affixed to the front of the building.

Last night, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, working alongside a council officer, worked to ensure the property was structurally safe following the impact.

Officers asked the driver to carry out a roadside breath test and DrugWipe. He passed both tests and was later allowed to leave the scene.

The driver sustained minor injuries to his face and chest in the collision but did not require treatment.

Emergency services outside the house on Saturday

It marks the second time a vehicle has left the carriageway and come to rest inside the building. In January, the driver of a Mercedes was reported to court after hitting the house.

The news comes just a week after a Honda struck the front of a shop on the same road, after reportedly failing to stop for police officers. The driver suffered serious injuries and was later arrested.
