An infamous Swindon man has pleaded guilty to a serious assault before Christmas.

Heavily-convicted Jason Ranford, 35, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 27 December where he admitted a charge of actual bodily harm (ABH).

The court heard how he had injured his victim – Gareth Bridges – by throwing a glass a him in a pub two days before Christmas, on 23 December.

The case was deemed too serious to be dealt with in a magistrates court and it was sent to Swindon Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing. He was remanded in custody.

Though Ranford initially denied the allegations, he yesterday (29 December) changed his plea to guilty and made a bail application to the same court.

His application was rejected by chief magistrate Gail Chilcott and he was remanded in custody ahead of the next hearing.

He will appear at Swindon Crown Court for sentencing on 28 January.
