Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a storage yard in Swindon.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident this morning (7 December) following reports of a fire.

A large smoke plume can be seen emerging into the sky from Edward’s Yard in Ferndale Road, between Norman Road and Kitchener Street.

The fire service is asking local residents to close their windows and doors.

They wrote: “Crews are currently dealing with an incident off Ferndale Road, Swindon.

“This is causing a large smoke plume, local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed.”

Wiltshire Police has confirmed they are in attendance and do not believe anyone’s been hurt.

We are currently in attendance at a fire in Edwards Yard, Ferndale Road in Swindon where Wiltshire Police officers are supporting colleagues from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service”, a spokesperson said.

Adding: “There are no reported casualties at this time.

“We are asking members of the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency services to attend the scene.

“We would advise that those living nearby close their windows to keep out any smoke.”
