The body of a woman has been recovered from the River Avon in Bath.
Emergency services were called to reports of an unresponsive person in the water at Kensington Meadows shortly before 6pm on Sunday evening (8 March).
A man reportedly entered the river in a bid to remove the person – but was unsuccessful due to the freezing conditions and strong current.

999 crews assembled in the Morrisons car park, before moving to Cleveland Bridge. Emergency vehicles lined the street outside the former Bath Fire Station.
A short time later they attended Pulteney Weir, where specially-trained firefighters in a boat jumped into the river and recovered the body to Spring Gardens Road.

The deceased person was identified as a woman, and taken into an ambulance.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Emergency services have this evening (Sunday 8th March) recovered an individual’s body from the river in Pulteney Bridge, off Bridge Street, in Bath.
“Their death is currently being treated as unexplained but is not thought to be suspicious. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A crime scene remained in place behind Morrisons, in the Kensington Meadows area, while investigative work was carried out following the death.
