An angry Swindon man who tried to attack a fellow driver has avoided punishment – despite leaving the victim’s child terrified.
Gary Gwynny pleaded guilty to assault by beating when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday).
The 50-year-old father, of Mazurek Way, erupted into a violent rage during an incident on Thamesdown Drive on 5 August this year.
An eyewitness, who was waiting a traffic lights on the opposite side of the road, filmed the encounter on her mobile phone – sharing it with Wiltshire 999s.
Gwynny – driving a black MG HS – was seen to pull up behind a blue Audi before getting out and approaching the driver’s window, which was open.
He proceeded to shout at the driver – a man – and punched through the window.
The victim had his nine-year-old child in the car at the time, who it’s claimed was left terrified by the ordeal.
Magistrates gave Gwynny with a six-month conditional discharge – meaning he won’t be punished for his actions unless he commits another offence within the discharge period.
The conviction will remain on the defendant’s record. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a court surcharge of £26.
