A Swindon man has appeared in court accused of a serious assault on his girlfriend.
Kelam Smith, 22, appeared before magistrates this morning charged with one count of grievous bodily harm (GBH) without intent.
It’s the Crown’s case that the defendant, of Liddington Street, Pinehurst, punched his girlfriend in the face yesterday morning after she’d challenged him about suspicious use of his mobile phone.
A 999 call was made to the police, but it was disconnected. When the operator called the number back, his victim answered – stating she had been assaulted and had lost some teeth.
When police attended the address, Smith was arrested.
When the victim was taken to hospital for treatment, it was found that she had also suffered a broken jaw.
Smith was remanded in custody ahead of a crown court hearing.
