Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced strict new coronavirus lockdown measures in order to stem the spread of COVID-19 before Christmas.
The new national lockdown means pubs, restaurants, beauty salons, hairdressers and other non-essential retail will shut from Thursday and won’t reopen until December.
Mixing with people outside your household is to be banned from 0.01am on 5 November, with people told to stay at home and only venture out if it’s absolutely necessary.
Manufacturing and construction will be encouraged to keep going and takeaways will be allowed to remain open, as well as those offering a delivery service.
More measures announced by the Prime Minister this evening:
– Families will not be allowed to mix inside except for childcare reasons and other forms of support
– Schools, colleges, educational establishments and courts will remain open
– Work from home unless is it is not possible to do so, for example, in the construction or manufacturing industries
– Travel within the UK is to be discouraged with overnight stays away from home also banned, except for work purposes
It’s understood that following the national lockdown, each authority area will be allocated a Tier based on coronavirus results.
