A woman has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed at a house in Calne.

Emergency services responded to reports of a serious incident unfolding in Lawrence Drive at around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday, 2 December).

Local residents report seeing approximately ten police cars and numerous ambulances vehicles on scene, with part of the street cordoned off as armed police were called in.

Firearms officers – supported by a dog unit – broke down a door to arrest a ‘very large man in his underwear’, witnesses claim.

A woman, aged in her 30s, was wheeled out of the property into an ambulance with multiple stab wounds.

The seriously injured woman was taken to the region’s major trauma centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for urgent treatment. It’s understood she is in a stable condition.

At 3.30pm, two forensic vans arrived. Three crime scene investigators liaised with several detectives before photographing the area and gathering evidence.

Various blood smears could be seen around the door frame of a semi-detached house, whilst the connected property also formed part of the ongoing investigation.

It’s believed the victim and suspect were known to one another.

Wiltshire Police confirmed a man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Read the full update, including the force statement, here >
