A boy has miraculously escaped serious injury after falling from an upstairs window.

Emergency services raced to the concerning incident in Towpath Road, Trowbridge, at around 3.40pm on Monday afternoon (30 June).

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene in a blue light car and a helicopter, alongside ambulance crews and police.

The three-year-old boy was found to have launched himself from a first-floor window – landing in a bramble bush below.

He narrowly avoided a pile of carpet gripper rods with nails protruding from them, which appear to have been dumped in the garden in a scattered fashion.

He was airlifted to Southmead Hospital for assessment, where doctors found he sustained only bruising and scratches.

The toddler was kept in hospital overnight for monitoring, but is expected to be discharged later today (Tuesday).

“He has no life changing or life threatening injuries and will be discharged from hospital soon”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

The house was cordoned off as a crime scene while officers carried out investigation work, and a professional from children’s services at Wiltshire Council attended.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall is ongoing, the force confirmed. Criminal proceedings could follow if any potential offences are identified.
