A woman knifed an ‘abusive’ man’s sound system before fleeing the country to Wales.
Jessica Meyers, 26, pleaded guilty to criminal damage when she appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court via video link from her solicitor’s office on Thursday (16 March).
Kate Prince, prosecuting, said the defendant took a knife to her a Kenwood sound system jointly owned with her then-partner of seven years on 30 December 2021.
She stabbed the display screens of the music device and threw the speakers on the ground during an argument.
Defence solicitor Cath Jagger said that Meyers subsequently fled Swindon with the support of social services over domestic abuse concerns and is now living in Wales.
She said the sound system has been purchased with joint funds for £200 on Facebook Marketplace.
Magistrates decided that in the circumstances, it was appropriate to make a conditional discharge. It means the defendant has been convicted of the offence but won’t receive a punishment unless another offence is committed within the next 12 months.
