A Swindon man has been banned from the roads after police watched him almost crash into a parked van while drink driving.
Kododanda Menisurya was behind the wheel of a red Ford Focus when officers witnessed the alarming near-miss in the early hours of Tuesday 16 June.
The 39-year-old, of Whatley Way, was driving along Roman Road towards Wilton Road in Salisbury when he came close to colliding with the parked vehicle.
He then turned into the Texaco petrol station on Wilton Road, where police intervened over concerns about the manner of his driving.
Officers carried out a breath test, which showed Menisurya was over the legal drink-drive limit, and he was arrested.
Menisurya pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday 11 September.
He was disqualified from driving for 16 months and fined £461. Menisurya was also ordered to pay £83 in prosecution costs and a £184 surcharge.
PC Alex Heath, of Wiltshire Police, said: “Most people understand the dangers of drink driving, yet we still see individuals taking unnecessary risks on our roads.
“Alcohol affects judgement, reaction times and driving ability – increasing your risk of being involved in a collision.
“We will continue to target those who choose to drink and drive and take robust action against offenders.”
