A woman has been critically injured in a head-on crash on the A3102 near Calne.
Emergency services were called to a three-vehicle road traffic collision on a bend in Whetham shortly before 3pm this afternoon (Monday).
Two vehicles – a blue Dacia Sandero Stepway and a blue Vauxhall Zafira – impacted head-on, whilst a red Nissan Juke was involved but wasn’t damaged.
Great Western Air Ambulance, several ambulances, fire engines and a significant number of police units attended the incident.
The driver of the Dacia, a woman aged in her 60s from Melksham, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with life-threatening injuries. Her next of kin has been informed.
A child within the Vauxhall was taken to Royal United Hospital with minor injuries.
A forensic collision investigation is underway at the scene, with the road expected to remain until tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 27 February).
The route is shut by police between A342 Devizes Road/Sandy Lane and Mile Elm/Calne.
