A woman has been airlifted to hospital after a crash in a country lane near Chippenham.
The head-on road traffic collision happened in Biddestone Lane, Yatton Keynell, shortly before 2pm this afternoon (Saturday).
A silver Volkswagen Golf and a white Vauxhall Astra were involved in the incident, which resulted in Wiltshire Air Ambulance being deployed.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews – from Chippenham and Corsham – to the scene and firefighters extricated a casualty from the Golf by removing its roof.
The driver of the Golf sustained a broken femur (leg) and was airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
The passenger in the Golf sustained injuries including a suspect dislocated elbow. He was taken to Royal United Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Astra, a woman aged in her 30s, sustained minor injuries.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing. Police had the road closed in both directions for around five hours – until around 7pm.
