A 75-year-old woman who died when her car crashed into Marlborough Town Hall on Saturday was on her way to lay flowers on the graves of her husband and son.
Emergency services were called to the collision in Kingsbury Street at around 1.45pm on Saturday, but Sheila Gillett was pronounced deceased shortly afterwards.
Today her family paid tribute to her, with her two sons David and Paul thanking all those who helped their mother at the scene.
“Mum was a loving, kind and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother taken from us far too early”, they said. “She was driving through Marlborough on Saturday to visit her deceased husband and son’s grave, on her husband’s birthday.
“She was immensely proud of her large family who find the loss of such a wonderful family member a huge, sudden shock. Sheila will be sorely missed by everyone in the family and by everyone that knew her.
“She is now together with her beloved husband and son. Rest in peace.
“We’d also like to sincerely thank all those who responded to the incident be they on duty, off duty or simply passersby.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on 101 and quote log number 195 of July 25.
